A Snowy Egret stabs its bill into the water for a meal at the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch, also known as the Gilbert Water Ranch, located about 20 miles southeast of Phoenix, Arizona.

Gallery member Pamela Parker shot the photo in mid-November with a Nikon D5200 and a 55-300mm lens. She posted it to our U.S. and Canada Gallery.

Photographer and author Jim Burns described the Gilbert Water Ranch, Hotspot Near You No. 43, in our June 2008 issue, calling it a “vibrant and accessible hotspot worth checking any time of year.” The ranch includes seven recharge basins and a fishing lake, all connected by gravel hiking paths. More than 250 species have been recorded.
