Congratulations to gallery contributor David Hoffman! His photo of a Ruddy Turnstone standing on a rock while water sprays all around it is our photo of the week winner for May and June.

He shot the photo on the jetty at Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina, and we featured it as the photo of the week beginning May 20. David’s prize is a one-year subscription to BirdWatching.

Kenny Salazar, whose photo of a Green Jay appears on the cover of our August issue, was our judge.

“Birds themselves make great subjects for photography, but when the bird’s habitat is clearly visible in the image, it really makes for a great photo,” Kenny says. “Rocks, water, and Ruddy Turnstones are a perfect trio. I was immediately drawn into this image. I began to imagine the scene with waves crashing against rocks and a lone peaceful bird amidst the chaos staring out into a big ocean. And it’s a fantastic image: a focused subject with water drops for dramatic effect. Congratulations!”

We’ll publish David’s photo in our October issue.
