When working in Antarctica, it is common to encounter South Polar Skuas hanging out near anywhere that serves or sells food. The birds are protected by the Antarctic Treaty, and have little fear of people, making it possible to get quite close to them with a camera. This particular bird was photographed near the chow hall at Pegasus Airfield, hoping for someone to drop their lunch.
I forget which camera I used to take this, but do remember it was a Nikon point-and-shoot. I photographed this skua in early 2013.
