Virginia Rails – or rails of any type – can be hard to see, and even harder to find. They have a very throaty sound. I’ve discovered I can imitate it pretty well. While doing my best Virginia Rail impression, this guy walked right out in the open for close to a minute. He came so close to me at one point that my camera wasn’t able to focus. This photo was taken along Saginaw Bay, Michigan, at Nayanquing NWR.
