This male Ruffed Grouse was drumming on a log when he obviously spied a female. He then put up his ruff and pursued her. The mating occurred but the bush was too dense for me to take a, close to clear, picture of the action. She flew up into a tree and he stood under the tree gazing up at her. I have often seen the grouse on the log drumming and I know it is to attract a mate but I had never witnessed what takes place once the female enters the picture.
