While vacationing near Beaufort, SC, I came across this little guy at Hunting Island State Park. Each morning he would sing from his perch staking claim to his territory. Early one morning I set up my camera in a strategic spot and covered my self with camouflage netting and began “pishing” softly. In just a matter of seconds he appeared at the perfect spot. It was one of those special moments when everything lines up in near-perfect fashion for a great shot. I’ve seen quite a few Painted Buntings on subsequent trips, but none were as photogenic as this one.
