This Green Heron lives in a man-made tidal lagoon, under a fishing dock, at our condominium property, Madeire Beach, Florida. The lagoon connectes with the Intercoastal waterway, generating a communion of birds and salt water fish. At low tide early on a July evening, crouched low on the sea shell shelf of the lagoon, the Heron caught this wiggling spear nosed needle fish. The Heron flew to a sand beach where “eye to eye” the feast could begin. Somewhat surprisingly, the Heron swalloed the fish spear nose first.
