Great Gray Owl

During last winter’s Great Gray Owl visit to our area, there were a few places were they had settled. This one spot was along the river’s edge where the owl would scan the the bank for prey.
I captured this image as the owl lifted off after an unsuccessful plunge into the snow looking to catch a vole.
Image was made with a Canon 1D MKIV, 500 f4 L IS Lens, 1/4000 sec, f4.0, ISO 250, Tripod mounted on Wimberley Type II Head.
