Double-crested Cormorant

While photographing from my kayak at Bunche Beach Preserve in Fort Myers FL, I spotted this Double-crested Cormorant, paddled past him at a safe distance to get the light at my back, and reached for my digital SLR.

And then he went nuts! He splashed furiously for about half a minute, sending spray several feet above the water. The low angle of the late-afternoon sun caused the droplets to reflect all the colors of the rainbow. (Later, I was told by a birding veteran that the bird does this to chase insects off his back.)
