I had an amazing closeup time this week with this male goldeneye at Yellow Lake, near Penticton, BC Canada. The lake is a popular spot for fishing and boats are scattered across the lake and boats come and go from the launch area. BAGO nest on this small lake but I’ve never seen one that showed so little concern for my human presence. When I walked down to the edge of the launch, I noticed this bird did not swim away, in fact it came closer and closer to me to forage underwater, to the point that it was about 3-4 feet away for about 10 minutes.
