Large irruptions of Evening Grosbeaks often occur in the Willamette Valley in spring. After a hard, cold winter in 2011-12, the grosbeaks were looking for food. At the end of May 2011, a flock of Evening Grosbeaks found our backyard feeders and took over the tray feeder for a week or so, a good opportunity to get some close-up photos of these gorgeous birds with the heavy-duty beaks. Shot using a Nikon D300 camera with a Nikkor 300 mm lens from the back porch of our home.
