On Saturday, August 24, 2013 between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., the Knoxville Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society (KTOS) will host a Hummingbird Festival in conjunction with Ijams Nature Center. At this event families, children, and bird watching and nature enthusiasts – will converge to celebrate the wonder of hummingbirds and to learn more about them. The festival will treat visitors to renowned speakers on various nature topics, live demonstrations, guided walks and a close-up look at the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, one of nature’s most fascinating creatures. This will be an educational event, teaching visitors about wintering hummingbirds in our area, how to attract the birds and become more involved with nature. Various vendors will be present, selling food and drinks, locally made arts and crafts, native plants, bird feeders, books and there will be a “Bargain Barn” selling gently used and donated items.
