Toh Bird Festival and Birdathon

November 22, 2013 - November 24, 2013

| 22 dlls

From March to November the Festival hosts many activities related to the incredible bird diversity of Yucatan, like birdwatching tours, conferences, workshops, photography and drawing contest, activities for kids and so much more.

The pinnacle of the festival, the birdathon xoc ch’ich’ (in the Maya language literally means “bird count”), will take place from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 24th of November 2013 in Merida and Rio Lagartos in Yucatan.

xoc ch’ich’ in the Maya language literally means xoc = count, ch’ich’ = bird or “count bird”, offers an opportunity for local and foreign birdwatchers to spend an enjoyable weekend full of colors, sounds and nature, plus the chance to get involved in a cultural interchange in which everybody learns something.

The outward objective of the xoc ch’ich’ is the same as other such events held in other parts of the world in that teams are rewarded for finding the highest number of bird species in a limited time period, traveling around different routes in Yucatan, that includes the coast, wetlands, and forest.
