The annual Iowa Pelican Festival will be held again this year on the NW shore of Coralville Reservoir, near Iowa City, Sunday, September 8. This is a free, family-oriented event, celebrating the annual migration of American While Pelicans through Iowa. Local birding experts will be on hand with spotting scopes to help visitors observe these magnificent, giant, white waterbirds. Presentations about pelicans and other bird-related topics will be held every half-hour from 12:30-3:00 PM. A wide variety of conservation organizations and nature-related businesses will staff display tents, while food, snacks and beverages will be sold by a local youth organization. This fun, educational event, is jointly sponsored by Iowa Audubon, Iowa City Bird Club, Iowa DNR, US Army Corps of Engineers and Johnson County Conservation Board.
