Houston Chronicle nature columnist Gary Clark describes when and how to bird six hotspots within 60 miles of Houston: Attwater Prairie Chicken, Anahuac, and Brazoria National Wildlife Refuges, Katy Prairie, Armand Bayou Nature Center, and Texas City Preserve. The region's birds include White-faced and White Ibises, Harris's Sparrow, White-tailed Kite, Crested Caracara, Sedge Wren, and Roseate Spoonbill.
