Dan Streifel saw this Pine Siskin perched on an icy juniper branch at the Richmond Lake State Recreation Area near Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Pine Siskins
(Carduelis pinus) are members of the finch family and breed in Alaska and northern Canada. But many spend the entire year in highlands as far south as Guatemala. Streifel took this picture with a Canon 20D digital SLR and a 500mm f/4 lens.
