Northern Cardinal

Published: May 9, 2005
Linda Konz of Schuyler, Nebraska, photographed this male Northern Cardinal as a steady mist soaked the bird.

She made the image of the bird (Cardinalis cardinalis) at Goose Island State Park in Rockport, Texas. "A mister had been set up on the birdbath, but during the night a raccoon chewed a few holes in the hose," she tells us. "Water sprayed up into the bushes and onto the bird."

Linda used a Nikon D100 camera.
