Published: July 9, 2012
Paul Poronto of Macomb, Michigan, photographed this Kirtland's Warbler on June 20, 2012, outside the town of Mio and posted the image to our U.S. and Canada Gallery. He used a Canon 450D and a Sigma 150-500mm lens.

Kirtland's Warbler is an endangered species that nests primarily in central Michigan. Paul and his friend Mick drove along county and forest roads for most of the day listening and looking for birds. They photographed two Kirtland's Warblers and found 61 other species. Read more about the trip on Paul's blog.
