Rufous Hummingbird

Robert York photographed these two-week-old Rufous Hummingbird chicks in his yard in Spanaway, Washington.

The nest was located in a Douglas fir tree about eight feet off the ground. York watched the nest closely and noted how, as the chicks grew, the nest spread to accommodate the birds (Selasphorus rufus).

York took the photo with his Sony F-505V digital camera from about five feet away.
