Published: October 31, 2005
Bert Becerra saw this Central American hummingbird deep in the rainforest at the El Macho Waterfall in El Valle de Anton, Panama.

The Violet-crowned Woodnymph (Thalurania colombica), also known as Purple-crowned Woodnymph, lives in the humid rainforests from Costa Rica to Venezuela. It is one of the most common hummingbirds in the region.

Becerra used a Canon Digital Rebel, a 75-300mm Canon lens, and flash.
