Red-legged Honeycreeper
© Lora Render
Published: July 11, 2011
Subscriber Lora Render of San Antonio, Texas, captured this great photo of a male Red-legged Honeycreeper at the Laguna Del Lagarto Lodge in northern Costa Rica on February 21, 2011, and posted it to our World Gallery.

Red-legged Honeycreeper (Cyanerpes cyaneus) is found throughout the tropics, from southern Mexico to central Brazil. In addition to its namesake red legs, the male is blue with black wings, tail, and back, and, as we can see in Lora’s photo, its underwings are yellow. The female is mostly green and has reddish brown legs.

Lora used a Canon 7D with a 100-400mm lens.
