Sibley birds poster, singing greeting cards, a fountain, and three feeders

A poster filled with beautiful backyard birds painted by David Sibley, greeting cards that play bird songs, a bird-bath fountain, and three new feeders: a quirky suet dispenser, a clever metal nyjer feeder, and a mealworm cage just right for bluebirds.

Poster
Sibley’s Backyard Birds: Eastern North America
This poster will be hanging in our offices soon. Assembled on it are 144 portraits of 98 species common to backyards from the eastern foothills of the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic. Birds are arranged by family and sized to allow comparisons. Females are included where appropriate. And every painting comes from the hand of David Allen Sibley, a regular contributor to this magazine (see “ID Toolkit”) and the author of The Sibley Guide to Birds, Sibley guides to birds of eastern and western North America, and other books. He told us he hopes people see the poster as more than just a lot of birds: “I hope it will encourage people to learn more about our birds and to help protect their habitats in our neighborhoods across the continent.” A version showing birds of western North America will be available soon, he says, and posters on hummingbirds, raptors, ducks and geese, and other birds are in the works. We can’t wait to see them! 24 x 36"

Birdsong singing greeting cards
Cards
Birdsong singing greeting cards
Any birdwatcher would be happy to receive these cards. They feature attractive color etchings by artist Maurice R. Bebb, they play bird songs, and they provide interesting facts about the habits, identification, and conservation of each species. What’s more, the cards are printed on stock from sustainable forests, and the batteries are mercury-free. The sounds come from the Macaulay Library, part of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and profits help fund research and conservation at the lab.

This clever feeder does two things really well: It provides finches and other birds with a flat vertical surface to cling to while they feed, and it gives you a great view of them as they do so. The specially manufactured mesh has diamond-shaped openings, allowing the birds better access to nyjer and fine-hulled sunflower. Choose between a 1½- and a 3-quart size.
