Eldon Greij

Eldon Greij is a biologist and a lifelong educator and the Founding Editor of
Birder's World (now
BirdWatching). His popular column
"Amazing Birds" appears in every issue of the magazine.
Greij is professor emeritus at
Hope College in Holland, Michigan, where he taught ornithology and ecology for many years while working closely with area birdwatchers. He left academe in 1987 to launch
Birder's World and served tirelessly as its publisher and editor.
He has a strong interest in the environment, especially wetland conservation and the effects of global warming, and a special interest in marsh birds. He currently participates in birding festivals and leads tours on the Peruvian Amazon and in Tanzania. He is now the president of Avian Enterprises.
PublicationsGreij studied the Common Moorhen for 12 years and wrote the chapter on the species in
Migratory Shore and Upland Game Bird Management in North America
(International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, 1994).
