A Green Heron maintains its grip on a wet rock while water droplets hang in the air at Dead Horse Ranch State Park in central Arizona. Walker Noe of Phoenix took the photo in May with a Nikon D5100 and a Nikkor 300mm f4 AF-S lens mounted on a tripod.
“The Green Heron was fishing around a lagoon for hours,” he tells us. “The bird gradually allowed me to approach closer and closer until I was lying on the ground about 15-20 feet from it. The water droplets are remnants of a splash from a missed stab at a small fish.”
