Our new photo of the week comes from gallery member Cesare Galanti. He shot this photo of a Squacco Heron in May 2014 at Circeo National Park in Italy and posted it to our World Gallery. Galanti found the heron at a nature reserve within the park called Pantani dell’Inferno, which is located on the Mediterranean coast about 55 miles (90 km) southeast of Rome.
Squacco Heron breeds across Europe, central Asia, and northern Africa and spends the winter in Africa. Galanti used a Nikon D700 and a Sigma 120-400mm lens.
