A dozen Snow Buntings burst forth from a snowy field near the shoreline of Lake Ontario in New York in February 2014. The birds were eating seed heads from the plant at center. Photographer Laurie Dirkx of Rochester took the photo with a Canon 7D and a 100-400mm lens and posted it to our U.S. and Canada Gallery.
