This picture of Great Egrets having a territorial dispute is our new photo of the week. Scott Helfrich took it in May 2013 at the Wading Bird Rookery at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm in St. Augustine, Florida, and posted it to our U.S. and Canada Gallery.
Helfrich and a friend were in position to photograph birds flying in with sticks to build their nests. “Then these two started air dancing, which actually was a dispute, but it looked so beautiful at the time,” he says. “We got lucky and got several shots of them in mid-air.”
Helfrich used a Canon 7D and a 300mm lens.
