This up-close shot of a preening Blue Jay is our photo of the week. Gallery member Nick Saunders took the photo in his backyard in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, while the bird was drying off after a bath in his backyard pond. He posted the shot to our U.S. and Canada Gallery.
The pond and the unshelled peanuts he puts out attract jays to the yard. “I shot the photo through an open office window, which also serves as a bird blind because it overlooks the backyard and water feature,” he says.
Nick used a Canon 7D and a 100-400mm lens.
