Photographer Geoff Coe of Fort Myers, Florida, shot this remarkable photo of a group of juvenile Black-crowned Night-Herons at Heislerville Wildlife Management Area in New Jersey. It’s our new photo of the week.
When he first saw the herons, “I didn’t think that they were birds at all,” Geoff said when he posted the photo in our U.S. and Canada Gallery. “In fact, from 40 yards’ distance I thought I was looking at a rock! Then, a bird flew in and landed on the snag, and I thought I saw the rock move a little.”
He shot the photo with a Canon 7D and a 500mm lens.
