A Great Egret cuts across blue sky and white clouds in this photo by Laura Borla of Commerce Township, Michigan.
"I was at Berry Lake, which is a tiny lake nestled near a freeway about 45 minutes outside of Detroit," Laura says. "The egret was fishing in a small body of water near a parking lot when something startled him and he flew right toward me. I was standing on a little stretch of land that separated a small body of water and the larger lake. I was so excited that I didn't think I would be able to focus my camera, but I did and got three other shots that were decent. When he was almost above me, he honked, and then I let out a shrill noise myself. It was so thrilling, and when I viewed the photos directly after, I was shaking."
She shot the photo on August 21, 2011, with a Nikon D5000 and a Nikkor 70-200mm lens.
