Northwestern Crow

Debra Herst was visiting Jericho Park in her hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia, on May 25, 2011, to look for Virginia Rails when she saw something hanging from a tree. It turned out to be a Northwestern Crow
(Corvus caurinus). Several other crows were foraging on the ground below it.
“As I got closer I became somewhat startled, and thought, ‘Oh no, that crow is stuck to the branch,’” Debra says. “At first I wondered how I would get him unstuck with all of his buddies foraging in the grass around him. Then I realized that he was hanging all on his own! I quickly snapped a couple of shots before he righted himself and took off. Whether he just had a good view of his friends down below or thought he had an advantage in looking for something good to eat is anyone's guess!”
She shot the photo with a Nikon D7000 and a 70-300mm lens and posted it to our
U.S. and Canada Gallery.
