Barn Owl

A young Barn Owl
(Tyto alba) turns its head upside down in its nest in a palm tree east of Berkeley, California. Subscriber Ethan Winning captured the scene after getting a tip about the nest from a friend.
“When I got there,” says Ethan, “there were three chicks: one who napped through my entire visit, one who ducked down between the other two, and one who thought I was a might peculiar and looked at me upside down and in every other way until he nodded off to sleep as well.”
Ethan used a Canon PowerShot SX10 IS. To see more shots of the nest, go to his
