A Tricolored Heron preens early in the morning at Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge in Boynton Beach, Florida.
Michael Baranski of West Palm Beach says he was "fortunate to get this close" to the heron
(Egretta tricolor). "I have photographed birds in a lot of places, but they just seem to be a bit more tame and photogenic in South Florida," he says. He used a Nikon D90 with a 100-400m lens.
