Adrian Hopkins found this tiny Red-browed Finch
(Neochmia temporalis) in mid-October 2009 in the Coffs Harbour region of New South Wales, Australia.
The 4.3-inch (11-cm) finch "is highly sociable, lives in close-knit flocks, and forages on the ground, sometimes on grass stems," Adrian says, "and thus is difficult to photograph."
Adrian, who lives in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom, photographs wildlife around the world. He used a hand-held Canon EOS 500D (known as the Digital Rebel T1i in North America) with an image stabilizer and 100-400mm lens. You can see more of his bird photos on
his website.
