Subscriber Anne Harlan of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, was visiting her brother in Mangum, Oklahoma, and heard there were Mississippi Kites
(Ictinia mississippiensis) in the area.
"My husband and I seldom get kites where we live in New Jersey, so we were eager to get better views of these birds," she tells us. "On the first day, we only saw one quite some distance away. The next morning, I walked out the door with my camera and binoculars and came almost face to face with this magnificent pair of kites in the tree in my brother's front yard."
She shot the photo with a Nikon D90 and an 80-400mm lens.
