Hugh Robateau photographed this colorful male Wood Duck.

The duck (Aix sponsa) was swimming at Santee Lakes. Hugh, of San Pedro, California, used a Nikon D2X digital camera and a 600mm lens. He took the camera off the tripod and took the picture with the lens on the ground for a lower viewpoint.
